New investment
July 2009
Sferic Stellite, has invested in a 3D-surface topography analysis device.
Implants have to fulfill special demands with respect to medical tolerance, durability and wear. Wear problems are the number one cause of implants infections and rejections. Therefore, the quality of the surface is of crucial importance and our orthopaedic customers are very attentive and demanding on our capacities to guaranty our production.
In the machining of hip implants, the polishing process determines the quality of the ultra-smooth surfaces. To be able to control at 100% the products, Sferic has invested in a 3D-surface topography analysis from the German manufacturer NanoFocus. This system allows high precision and nano scale 3D surface measurements. The examination of the surface roughness down to the nanometer range ensures that the implants are always of a consistent quality.
This investment will not only permit to control the products but also to enhance the quality of cast components produced by ATS Stellite and improve the quality of our machining process.
Very few orthopaedic sub-contractor have such device in-house.
